Portland's White Bird Dance has had a terrific 15th anniversary season, hosting the likes of Akram Khan Company, Trisha Brown Dance, and Illstyle & Peace Productions (which we recently reviewed here), with our 2013 "25 to Watch" Ballet BC to come. At White Bird's anniversary gala this Sunday, the Portland-based presenter will bestow the inaugural White Bird Awards, honoring BodyVox for Excellent in Community Engagement, Alonzo King with the "Barney" Choreographic Prize, board members Nancy and George Thorn with the Angel award, and Paul Taylor with the Lifetime Achievement award. All awardees will accept in person and Paul Taylor Dance Company, which gives three performances at the Newmark Theater from April 4–6, will also dance at the gala. Congrats to the recipients, and to White Bird on its special day!
