Suzanne Farrell and Peter Martins in Balanchine's Allegro Brillante. DM Archives

The Suzanne Farrell Ballet's season doesn't last long. But while those dancers are on stage under the direction of "Balanchine's Muse," it's simply magnificent. The nuance and attention Suzanne Farrell now brings to Balanchine's works is as exquisite as when she was dancing them herself. Just look at this archival shot of her with Peter Martins in "Allegro Brillante": Now that's what I call brilliant.

Interestingly, for their upcoming season, Farrell's company is stretching beyond its Balanchine bread and butter, and will perform Paul Mejia's one-act, propless Romeo and Juliet. Read Farrell's notes about this decision for insight into her perspective.
