We all know that soda and other sugary, carbonated beverages aren't on
the list of good for-you foods. But what about juice? If it’s made
from fruit, it’s good for you, right?
According to www.caloriecount.com, one serving of Coca-Cola Classic
has 97 calories and approximately 21 grams of sugar. How does that
compare to our favorite juices? POM pomegranate juice has 160 calories
and 34 grams of sugar in each serving. Though this is better than
Welch’s 100% Purple Grape Juice (170 calories, 40 grams of sugar),
it’s a lot worse than Simply Orange Orange Juice, which weighs in at 110
calories and 22 grams of sugar. But all have more calories and
sugar than an average soda.
Moral of the story: Just because it’s made from fruit doesn't mean
it's good for you. (Fruit juices do have lots of vitamins and
antioxidants, but if you're counting calories or carbs, it's best to
get those from a real piece of fruit.) Stick with water, or if you
must have some flavor, switch food groups and try V8 100% Vegetable
Juice, which has only 50 calories and 8 grams of sugar per 8-ounce
serving.
