Yes, the Valentino evening at New York City Ballet last night was frothy and colorful. But when it comes to designing for dancers, Valentino’s got nothing on Karinska. The most danceable costumes of the evening were still her designs for the "Rubies" section of Balanchine’s Jewels, which premiered in 1967.
