Today's archival photo is of Loïe Fuller, the American dancer who was the toast of Paris in the early 20th century. Traveling with 14 electricians and hundreds of yards of silk, she was able to transform herself into a dragonfly, a lily, or a raging fire.

Fuller was just named an "Irreplaceable Dance Treasure" by the Dance Heritage Coalition along with 11 other dance figures (including Jacques d'Amboise, Garth Fagan, and more).
