Pink tights, black leotards, stabbing safety pins—it’s the homestretch of summer program audition season and you’re most likely getting tired of the drill. If you haven’t finalized your summer plans yet, print out another first arabesque photo and pack a smile in your dance bag. Here’s a small sampling of what’s going on this weekend across the nation:
New York City:
French Academie of Ballet is holding auditions for its three-week summer intensive in August, directed by François Perron. (Click here to read about the program in Dance Magazine's 2013 Summer Study Guide.) Auditions are Saturday March 2 held at the New York City Center studios, and bring a headshot and your best first arabesque photo. It’s $40 in cash to register that day, but you can save $10 by pre-registering online. Details here.
Stay in NYC for the weekend, because on Sunday, March 3, The Joffrey Ballet School is auditioning in New York for its ballet and jazz summer programs. (Auditions are also being held this weekend in Holland, MI, San Diego, CA, and Columbus, OH.) If you’re auditioning for the ballet program, bring $40 and a 5x7 shot of your first arabesque. Jazz and contemporary students should bring a photo of you jumping, your face visible. Details here.
You could win a scholarship to The Joffrey Ballet School summer programs! Click here for details and to enter.
Detroit, MI, Houston and Dallas, TX, and Chicago, IL:
Want to study in Manhattan with legendary ballerina Gelsey Kirkland for five weeks this summer? Yes, please! The Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet is holding auditions in four locations across the country this weekend. Don’t forget to pack a 5x7 head shot and a 5x7 dance shot. Click here for more information about the programs offered, and here for audition locations, dates, times and fees.
Atlanta Ballet’s audition tour for its summer program finishes this Sunday in Atlanta, at the Michael C. Carlos Dance Centre. The fee is $30, pre-registration is not required, and all you need is yourself, pointe shoes and a great smile. Details here.
While Northwest Dance Project’s LAUNCH: 8 auditions are a few weeks away (March 17 in NYC and March 24 in Portland), you must pre-register at least two weeks in advance. Details here.
