Comings and Goings:

 

RingerFour New York City Ballet principal dancers have announced their retirements. Jenifer Ringer will give her last performance on Feb. 9. Her memoir, Dancing Through It: My Journey in the Ballet, comes out Feb. 20. Husband and wife Sébastien Marcovici and Janie Taylor will retire on March 1. Marcovici has been appointed L.A. Dance Project’s ballet master. Jonathan Stafford, following his last performance on May 25, will become a ballet master with NYCB and continue teaching at the School of American Ballet. ■ Boston Ballet has hired former La Scala Ballet dancers Petra Conti and Eris Nezha as principals. ■ Former Paul Taylor dancer and teacher Raegan Wood has been named director of The Taylor School. ■ Danish dancer/choreographer Johan Kobborg has become artistic director of the Romanian National Ballet. ■ Starz has announced casting for its TV series “Flesh and Bone”: former American Ballet Theatre principal Irina Dvorovenko, ABT soloist Sascha Radetsky, Ballet Twyla TharpArizona’s Raychel Diane Weiner, and Emily Tyra (Chaplin, Nice Work If You Can Get It). Royal New Zealand Ballet artistic director Ethan Stiefel will choreograph (see Q&A).

Awards and Appointments:

 

Twyla Tharp received the 2013 Capezio Dance Award, which recognizes lifetime achievement. ■ Ballet Austin artistic director Stephen Mills is one of 50 cultural leaders selected to Stephen Millshead National Arts Strategies’ Chief Executive Program. ■ The National Endowment for the Arts has added three members to its National Council on the Arts, including Ranee Ramaswamy, founder of Minneapolis bharata natyam troupe Ragamala Dance Company.
