Comings and Goings:
Trey McIntyre Project will disband following its June performances at Jacob’s Pillow. McIntyre plans to focus on freelance choreography, film and photography. n American Ballet Theatre corps member Bryn Watkins and Northern Ballet’s Lori Gilchrist have joined the Royal New Zealand Ballet. RNZB dancers Matthew Slattery and Helio Lima have moved to the Boston Ballet. n James Sewell Ballet co-founder and dancer Sally Rousse is now an artist in residence at the American Swedish Institute.
Monica Bill Barnes has received a $10,000 Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. n The 2013 Clive Barnes Award for dance was presented to Martha Graham Dance Company’s Lloyd Mayor. n Former Fosse dancer and Sweet Charity star Shirley MacLaine received a 2013 Kennedy Center Honor. n Cats and Phantom of the Opera choreographer Gillian Lynne became a Dame of the British Empire, appointed by Queen Elizabeth II. Royal Ballet principal guest artist Carlos Acosta was named a Commander.
She’s already danced with Prince, endorsed Dr. Pepper and been pictured in countless magazines. On March 4, Misty Copeland adds another accomplishment to her resumé: publishing her memoir, Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina. The book follows her inspiring career, from humble beginnings to Lincoln Center, becoming the first African American female soloist in two decades at American Ballet Theatre. —Kristin Schwab
