THE DEPARTMENT OF DANCE AT WEBSTER UNIVERSITY is seeking a dancer/teacher with extensive professional performance, choreographic and teaching experience. Qualified candidates should have a strong background in ballet and modern with an understanding of jazz and notable experience in teaching Dance Composition. It is preferred that the candidate has an MFA degree in dance.  Exceptional candidates could substitute performance experience and will be evaluated on an individual basis. Preference will be given to candidates who provide interdisciplinary and/or international education interests. It is anticipated the candidate will have the ability to teach all levels of ballet and modern technique classes, choreograph for the Webster University Dance Ensemble and, where appropriate, for the Conservatory of Theatre Arts. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, DANCE, TENURE TRACK – Thriving B.A. dance program in an excellent liberal arts college located less than two hours from Manhattan is accepting applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor of Dance beginning Fall 2012.  Candidates should have a significant record of achievement as a dance artist/educator and a terminal degree (MFA or Ph.D.) Teaching duties include both studio and theory courses.  The position requires teaching to the advanced level in one or more dance techniques (modern/contemporary, jazz, African, or ballet) as well as expertise and ability to teach in any one of the following areas: history/cultural/performance studies, composition, somatic practices, dance science, pedagogy, production, film/video or other dance aligned fields of investigation. The capacity to incorporate diverse perspectives into theory and studio courses coupled with a strong commitment to undergraduate liberal arts learning is required. Additional responsibilities include mentoring student writing and choreography, involvement in concert productions, participation in student recruiting, academic advising, and college committee assignments. The dance program serves 70-80 majors in addition to dance minors and the larger college population. Competitive salary
