August 2, 2015

Dance Network, a new on-demand, subscription-based digital service will bring dance into people’s homes, starting October 2015. Co-founders Julie Stadler and David Medeiros announced details at a launch party July 25 at the company’s home base of Nashville. The network said it will deliver original programming that displays all dance forms as “as entertainment, exercise, sport and inspiration.” Programs already in production are “Traveling Dancer,” which profiles global destinations through a dance lens; “To The Stage,” a reality program about competitive high school show choirs; “Steady Mobbin’,” a flash mob series; and previously produced TV and movies featuring dance ranging from classic films to BBC programs.

Stadler, a new dance student, and Medeiros, an instructor who owns and operates dance studios and competitions, became dance partners to introduce its benefits to neophytes. They culled an executive team of business veterans. Brian Williams, who specializes in entertainment marketing and content development is president; David Campbell, who has with experience in talent representation and children’s programming, is CEO; Joe Kissack, former executive vice president at Columbia Tri-Star Television is COO; and Chad Petterson, with experience in start-ups and film, is CFO.

Kissack especially saw the potential to capitalize on the popularity of network and cable TV programs such as “So You Think You Can Dance,” “Dancing with the Stars” and “Dance Moms.” “Everyone thought The Golf Channel was crazy when it started,” says Kissack. “But look at them now. And dance has so much more variety than golf.”

Dance Network will be available on Apple iOS and Android mobile phones, Roku and through the web portal, with pricing tiered at $6.99 a month, $5.99 a month for six months and $4.99 a month for a yearlong subscription.
