You'll Never Believe the New York City Law (Hopefully) Being Struck Down Tomorrow

Here’s something you probably don’t know about New York City: The “city that never sleeps” has a no-dancing law on the books.

Okay, we’re not talking about a full-on Footloose situation here. But the Cabaret Law, dating from the height of Prohibition, makes it illegal for bar and club owners to allow dancing on the premises unless they hold a difficult-to-acquire cabaret license. And according to The New York Times, it might not last past Halloween.

Tomorrow, Brooklyn councilman Rafael Espinal’s bill striking down the law will come before the council; Espinal is confident that he has the votes needed for it to pass.
