Ailey Blasts Into Lincoln Center

May 22, 2016

It’s not too early to plot out what to see during the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater season beginning June 8 at Lincoln Center. The two-week run promises a rich cluster of goodies, from a world premiere by Mauro Bigonzetti to the second installment of Kyle Abraham’s Untitled America to a new production of Robert Battle’s The Hunt.

It’s this last piece that will send you reeling. The pounding, pumping, warlike choreography is thrilling to watch—and at the same time it’s a bit disturbing to see such unbridled aggression. We don’t know what or whom they are hunting, but they throw themselves into Battle’s battle with fierce determination and abandon.

But hey, this video clip says it better than I could.

And if you didn’t catch the premieres from last December, this is your chance to see Ronald K. Brown’s Open Door, Rennie HarrisExodus and Battle’s Awakening. For a touch of romance, don’t miss Judith Jamison’s gorgeous A Case of You.

Of course, the spectacular dancers are another reason to see the company. From the longtime star Linda Celeste Sims to younger dancers like Sean Aaron Carmon, you will get a dose of exciting, full-out dancing. Performances run June 8-19 at the David H. Koch Theater.
