Connie Flachs has been a professional dancer with Grand Rapids Ballet Company for the past seven years. She has performed leading and supporting roles in ballets by George Balanchine, Mario Radacovsky, Paul Taylor, Olivier Wevers, José Limón, David Parsons, Penny Saunders, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, and Uri Sands. She has written for publications such as CulturedGR, the Rapidian, and Ballet Tabs. She has her Bachelor's degree in Community Health, Nutrition, and Sustainable Food Systems. She is also the co-founder of Grand Rapids' Better Body Image Conference, helping the community connect with resources to promote better relationships with our own bodies.

My heart sinks at my director's final response to my salary proposal. She insists it's not me or my work, there is just no money in the budget. My disappointment grows when handed the calendar for Grand Rapids Ballet's next season with five fewer weeks of work.
