A San Francisco Museum Puts Dance On Display With “Beyond Bollywood”
This spring, San Francisco’s Asian Art Museum presents “Beyond Bollywood: 2000 Years of Dance in Art,” a multimedia extravaganza of Himalayan, South Asian and Southeast Asian artwork featuring dance. The exhibition, which opened March 31, showcases sculpture, painting, textiles, jewelry, photographs, music and video installations that illustrate the rich history of dance in the regions.
On select days, museumgoers can also enjoy live performances: Bay Area dance artists, such as Antoine Hunter/Urban Jazz Dance Company, kathak dance troupe Noorani Dance and Cambodian dance artist Charya Burt, perform through biweekly pop-up performances inside the galleries, a monthly series of longer programs in Samsung Hall and family fun days.
“Beyond Bollywood” runs through July 10.
