This Summer Retreat Invites Pro Dancers To Train & Relax—For Free!

March 26, 2018

At the end of a long season, sometimes a dancer just needs to hit the reset button. A new summer program is offering pros a chance to do just that in the Rocky Mountains this summer. For free.

Launched by freelance choreographer Kevin Jenkins, Summer Dance Retreat provides professional dancers with a free week of classes (taught by Jenkins and David Maurice, interim artistic director of Cocodāco Dance Project in Chicago), rep workshops, discussions, nature walks and plenty of time to relax in a cabin just outside Boulder, Colorado.

“Given the salaries that most dancers exist on, it’s not feasible for them to invest in summer training,” says Jenkins. “That is why SDR is, and always will be, free for all participants.”

Dancers only need to pay for their flight to Denver. Training, lodging, meals and local transportation are all covered, thanks to a generous donation.

The inaugural session will take place August 13–19. Interested dancers can apply by submitting a resume, reel and a description of why you want to attend to [email protected] by April 15.
