Fit or Flop? The jury is still out…

July 31, 2008

I’m sure you’ve seen the ads, “Fitflop: It’s the flip-flop with the gym built in.” The shoe’s “micro-wobbleboard” technology (think mini bosu or stability disc) challenges stabilizers with each step, and in a study of a fifteen women the designers say it triggered increased gluteal, hamstring, quadricep, and calf muscle response. They also claim to relieve back pain, plantar fascitis, and reduce cellulite. But more conclusive medical research is needed – the flip-flops just made their U.S. debut in May 2007, and sold over 18,000 pairs in 3 days!. Personally, when I get done dancing the last thing I want is my walk home to become a wobbly workout. -Jen Thompson
