2016 Princess Grace Winners Announced
At Dance Magazine, we love scouting talent at performances and discovering promising dancers early in their careers. So there’s nothing quite like opening your inbox to fantastic news about the dancers we’ve had our eyes on. Receiving the announcement of the 2016 Princess Grace Award winners was like, well, Christmas in July. This year’s crop of awardees is nothing short of phenomenal—and many are performers you’ve seen in the pages of DM. Here are the dancers and choreographers who won:

Statue Awards (previously announced in April and given to previous Princess Grace winners)
Camille A. Brown. The award is totally deserved, though we can’t say we’re surprised since the choreographer has picked up a slew of awards this year.
Leslie Odom Jr.: Although his original award was in the theater category, not dance, I think we can all agree that he killed it as Aaron Burr in Hamilton.
Dance Scholarships
Tyson Clark: Currently a trainee at the Boston Ballet School, he’s a dancer worth watching.
Riley O’Flynn: The San Francisco native starts his fourth year at Juilliard this fall.

Dance Fellowships
Marc Crousillat: The downtown dancer is a member of the Trisha Brown Dance Company and has also performed the works of choreographers like John Jasperse and Wally Cardona.
Jeffery Duffy: The Juilliard grad is now dancing with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago.
Paige Fraser: One of the founding dancers of Visceral Dance Chicago, you’ve also seen her in our Get the Look style feature when we visited the company’s rehearsal studios.
Tamisha Guy: The Abraham.in.Motion. member was chosen for our 2016 “25 to Watch.”

Dance Honoraria
Chyrstyn M. Fentroy: This Dance Theatre of Harlem performer was featured on our January 2015 cover as a “25 to Watch.”
Choreography Fellowships
Danielle Agami: Also a 2015 “25 to Watch” pick, the former Batsheva dancer runs her own company, Ate9.
Penny Saunders: The choreographer has been gaining ground, creating work for such companies as Hubbard Street and Whim W’Him.
Special Project Awards
Kyle Abraham
: From his April 2014 cover to his views on working with female dancemakers, we’re longtime fans of this choreographer.
Marjani A. Forté-Saunders: The Harlem-based choreographer is also the co-founder of LOVE|FORTÉ A COLLECTIVE with Nia Love.
Works in Progress Residency Award
Victor Quijada: The founder of RUBBERBANDance Group is known for melding elements of hip hop, ballet and contemporary dance. Even back in 2012, we knew he was “On the Rise.”
