RDT’s Open House, Florida Dance Festival’s Winterfest, Charles Atlas Movie Marathons

Want to dance all day without dropping a lot of dough? Check out the Repertory Dance Theater Community School Open House on Saturday, January 3 in Salt Lake City. For just $8, you can take any or all of the seven classes—which range from modern and contemporary jazz to Brazilian and African dance—offered that day. Florida Dance Festival’s WinterFest 2008, which runs from December 27 to January 3, offers a delectable smorgasbord of performances by Miami-area dance artists. The best part of this dance feast? You’ll never have to pay more than $25 for a ticket! Especially notable is the closing-night performance, “Miami Dances,” a repertory concert featuring works by recipients of Dance Miami Choreography Fellowships. And on December 20, New York City’s Douglas Dunn and Dancers presents just that: free screenings of movies by visionary dance filmmaker Charles Atlas, coupled with appearances by Atlas himself and complimentary drinks and refreshments. Atlas, who has been filming dance since the 1970s, and was filmmaker-in-residence for the Merce Cunningham Dance Company for 10 years, will be discussing The Martha Tapes.
