A Rare Chance to Hear David and Valda

Perhaps the longest running love affair in dance, David Gordon and Valda Setterfield, will be speaking and showing videos next Monday. David is a rebellious and witty choreographer, and Valda as an elegant and witty performer. The two have been entwined for decades.

David will talk about Mannequin, the first piece he performed at Judson Dance Theater in 1962, and other matters like “how he thinks he learned to improvise.” Valda will talk about her part in their collaboration as his muse and star performer.

The talk, hosted by Barnard College in collaboration with Danspace Project’s “Platform 2012: Judson Now,” is called

“The Story Behind the Story Behind Mannequin (1962) and The Matter (1972), A Conversation with David Gordon and Valda Setterfield.”

It’ll be Monday, October 8
 at 7:00 PM at Diana Event Oval, Barnard College, 3009 Broadway, NYC. (Take the #1 train to 116th Street and Broadway and enter the Barnard campus at 117th Street. Walk to your right and find the student center, or Diana Center.)
