Calling All Aspiring Dance Reviewers

October 22, 2015

In an attempt to create more young dance writers, the National Ballet of Canada launched a program called Emerging Dance Critics last season in conjunction with Canadian magazine The Dance Current. Aspiring writers under the age of 29 are invited to participate in writing, editing and interviewing workshops led by established dance critics, and get to sit in on NBoC rehearsals to gain a better understanding of the process.

The company is now accepting applications for the second year of the program. Those selected will be invited to review performances of Christopher Wheeldon’s The Winter’s Tale and Alexei Ratmansky’s Romeo and Juliet in Toronto this November, with mentorship from recently retired arts critic John Coulbourn. The reviews will be edited by The Dance Current editor Megan Andrews and published in the magazine.

To apply, email [email protected] with a writing sample and description of why you would like to take part in the program by October 30. Merde!
