Gearing Up for the Dance Magazine Awards
We’re past the Thanksgiving holiday, but another opportunity to give thanks is coming up. The Dance Magazine Awards take place on Monday, December 7, at the Ailey Citigroup Theater—and you’re invited. Since 1954, we’ve shown gratitude to outstanding dance artists and others who have contributed to our field. (Click here for a list of past awardees.) Each year, there’s a giddy moment of touching greatness and humility. This year we honor Soledad Barrio, Marcelo Gomes (at left), Karen Kain, David Vaughan, and Jawole Willa Jo Zollar. We get excited not only about the awardees, but also about the presenters. This year they include Mikhail Baryshnikov, Valda Setterfield and Julie Kent (at right). Plus, we’ll have three live performances: A duet from American Ballet Theatre dancers in Marcelo Gomes’ latest choreography, Soledad Barrio herself with spectacular flamenco musicians, and the whole company of Urban Bush Women!
