Dance On (Camera)

January 29, 2013

There’s tons of great stuff to see at this year’s Dance on Camera festival, which opens this Friday, February 1st, at Lincoln Center. Films about students from Ballet Nacional de Cuba’s school (To Dance Like a Man); the first Mexican dancer to perform on Broadway, Carmen Gutierrez (A Girl from Mexico); and a 1971 Busby Berkeley retrospective (Cineastes of Our Times: Busby Berkeley) are just some of the offerings. We’re especially looking forward to Five Dances, which stars Ryan Steele (Newsies) and features choreography by Jonah Bokaer, and Trash Dance, which follows the making of Allison Orr’s piece of the same name, a beautifully choreographed work starring garbage trucks. Many of the dancers and directors involved will be in attendance. See the full list of films—and get your tickets—here.
