The Dance World Takes On #MannequinChallenge
#MannequinChallenge has completely, inexplicably taken over the internet. The idea is fairly straightforward: A group of people freeze mid-activity as though they’ve become mannequins as music plays in the background for the duration of the video. And of course, the dance world is getting in on the fun—and representing a massive range of genres! Here are a handful of our favorites so far.
They’re world-renowned for their precision, so it should come as a surprise to no one that the Rockettes nailed it—plus, who’s going to turn down a behind-the-scenes look at the backstage shenanigans of Radio City Music Hall?

Dancing with the Stars
This video, posted by DWTS contestant (and phenomenal gymnast) Laurie Hernandez, hints at just how many people it takes to make a show like this happen. Plus, it’s awesome seeing them break out of their mannequin poses to jam at the end. (Is anyone else wishing SYTYCD was in season right now to get in on this?)

Cirque du Soleil
I don’t have words for this. Not one, but TWO Cirque du Soleil casts have (so far) taken on the challenge, and the results are insane. Don’t forget to pick your jaw up off the floor after you’re done.

Of course we can’t count out the ballet dancers. Mad props to everyone in this video, especially the ladies chilling in retiré while on relevé. Now we’re waiting for Pacific Northwest Ballet and Boston Ballet to get wind of this and start yet another playful video war…
