Do You Hear The People Sing? (And More Importantly, Will They Dance?)

February 19, 2013

The lineup for the rumored musical tribute at 85th Academy Awards this Sunday has been revealed, and nearly the entire cast from the Les Misérables movie will perform—Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, Helena Bonham Carter, and Russell Crowe. (We hope the last been working on his voice!). While Les Mis is a less-than-dancey musical (although we know Tveit, who was fabulous in Catch Me If You Can on Broadway, can move), it’s not the only one that will be represented onstage. Catherine Zeta-Jones, who won an Oscar for her portrayal of Chicago‘s Velma Kelly (a gutsy performance, but our Velma will always be Chita Rivera), and Jennifer Hudson, another best supporting actress winner for Dreamgirls, will also appear. Fingers crossed for “All That Jazz” with Fosse choreography intact, and “Dreamgirls” or “One Night Only” (although if Hudson doesn’t sing “And I Am Telling You…”, we will be shocked). Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth will also perform in a number to close the show.

Too bad the show is only drawing from the movie musicals of the last decade—we’d love to see An American in Paris or West Side Story represented.

The Oscars air live on ABC at 7EST/4PST.
