Fashion Friday: Dancewear by Dancers

August 28, 2014

Dancewear made by dancers for dancers seems to be everywhere right now. The latest two ballerinas to get in on the trend? Tiler Peck, who’s created a leotard line for Body Wrappers/Angelo Luzio and Ashley Bouder who’s just debuted one for Discount Dance Supply.

What’s especially fun is that, since leotards are such a personal and expressive part of any dancer’s style, we get a glimpse of each star’s personality in the design of her line. Peck’s designs are fresh and geometric. Bouder’s are girly with their traditional cuts and floral prints, but they have an unexpected edge with nude accents.

A few other dancers turned designers? Of course there are the beloved customizable leos of Yumiko by Yumiko Takeshima, former principal with Dresden’s SemperOper Ballett. And Irina and Max have their ever popular warm up booties which are fun and cozy, but the pair also makes decidedly sleek (and sexy) leotards for Bloch. Also check out designs by Abigail Mentzer, Holly Lynn Fusco, Jordan Reed and Emily Bromberg, all with fabulous skirts, legwarmers, knitwears, leotards and more!
