Frederic Franklin Memorial Celebration

September 23, 2013

American Ballet Theatre will hold a memorial celebration in honor of ballet icon Frederic Franklin on Monday, October 14. Beginning at 4:30 p.m. at New York City’s LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts, the ceremony will include film clips, guest speakers, and performances by members of ABT, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Richmond Ballet, Tulsa Ballet, and Cincinnati Ballet. The memorial service is open to the public.

A danseur noble, ballet master, choreographer, teacher, coach and director, Franklin, who passed away earlier this spring, helped to solidify ballet’s place in America. He continued to appear in character roles with ABT until he was 95, and he served as a mentor to many, many dancers.
