David Rue’s The Magic Of Your Sigh

January 21, 2022

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. day earlier this week, today’s Friday Film Break is David Rue’s The Magic Of Your Sigh. Choreographed and performed by Rue to the song “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?”, the work “explores the cultural sector’s relationship to the Black dancing body by asking the questions, ‘Will you still love me tomorrow?’ and ‘How long will the arts sector continue to lend its voice to America’s socio-political climate beyond the lip service of performative ally-ship?’ ” according to the artist’s statement. Rue expresses himself through gestural motifs with purposeful cinematography by Brandon Freeman. The Magic Of Your Sigh was produced by Front Runner Films and directed by Jordan Rennick.
