Gearing Up for Gone

June 24, 2013

When a family loses a member, its generations come together to find solace in their shared grief. That’s the concept behind L.A.–based tapper Melinda Sullivan’s evening-length work for 11 dancers, Gone. Sullivan, a Dance Magazine “25 to Watch” in 2013, wowed audiences at the Capezio ACE Awards last summer, taking home the top prize for a shorter, yet driving preview of the same work. Revamped with an original orchestral score by jazz pianist Nikos Syropoulos and an extended storyline, Sullivan’s rustic—think sand and boots—tap-theater piece will premiere August 5 in New York City.
