Girl Power in Modern Dance

January 13, 2013

Last night we saw girl power at the Golden Globes, with those daredevils Tina Fey and Amy Poehler playing cock (I mean hens) of the roost in Hollywood. It was noted that their humor was funnier—and kinder—than their predecessor’s.

Well, the dance world has its own girl power on the way. In two weeks, Gotham Arts Exchange presents “Working Women” with some of the most spirited young choreographers around. They include Monica Bill Barnes (see her “Quick Q & A” ),  Camille A. Brown (see her “Choreography in Focus”), Carolyn Dorfman, and Kate Weare (click here for her “Quick Q & A”). And the up-and-coming, women-led BODYTRAFFIC from L.A., which is one of our “25 to Watch” in our current issue. Click here and scroll down.

So treat yourself to a festival of smart, sassy, colorful dance-makers at the Joyce Jan. 30 to Feb. 3.
