Happy International Women's Day

To celebrate International Women’s Day, here’s Martha Graham in her seminal solo Lamentation. As detailed in March’s New York Notebook, many strong women will make special contributions to the Graham company season, which opens next week. Icon Yvonne Rainer (who received a 2011 Dance Magazine Award) will premiere a new work riffing on Lamentation; beloved dancer Miki Orihara, who has performed nearly every female role in the Graham repertoire, celebrates her 25th season with the company; and guests Diana Vishneva and Fang-yi Sheu will perform at the March 15 gala.
