Happy National Dance Day! Here's How You Should Celebrate

July 28, 2016

Get ready to have your weekend made. Tomorrow is National Dance Day—the annual event where dancers and non-dancers alike get movin’ together, and one of our favorite days of the year. No matter where you are or what kind of dance you do, you’re bound to find a way to celebrate.

National Dance Day was created by Nigel Lythgoe and the Dizzy Feet Foundation six years ago to celebrate communities and combat obesity through dance. It’s grown into hundreds of events throughout the country—from flash mobs to free dance classes and performances—and it all comes together with a short, simple dance routine for everyone to perform. This year, you can learn the dance from “So You Think You Can Dance” all-stars Marko Germar, Comfort Fedoke, Kathryn McCormick and Robert Roldan, along with former “Dance Moms” star Mackenzie Ziegler:

Official events are happening in Los Angeles, DC and Orlando, and studios and dance companies all around the country are offering their own festivities. You can even host your own NDD celebration by gathering your friends to perform the dance at your favorite summer hangout. If you film yourself performing the official routine, you could end up on an episode of “So You Think You Can Dance!” Be sure to submit your video by August 5 for a chance to be featured.
