Marie de la Palme Mulroy (1959-2014)

Marie de la Palme Mulroy, age 55, died of breast cancer on December 14, 2014. Born August 19, 1959 in Bourgoin-Jailleu, France, Marie’s talent, vision and leadership led to a distinguished international career as a dancer, teacher and innovative choreographer.

 

The artistic director of Motion/Tribe dance company – which will continue performing her multi-award-winning creations – she earned a certificate of Professional Ballet Dancer from the Princess Grace Academie, Monte Carlo. Marie completed her contemporary and modern studies with scholarships from the Serge Golovine School of Ballet and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center. After a successful career in commercial and concert dance in NYC, she moved to Southern California to start a family and further develop her innovative choreography.

 

A five-time-award winner of the Dance Under the Stars Choreography Festival, her creations have received multiple Lester Horton Dance Award nominations. Marie has been a featured artist for the McCallum Institute’s Educational Program, and her work has been presented internationally as well as locally, from Dizzy Feet Foundation’s 2009 Gala at the Kodak Theatre to KCET’s Annual Holiday Celebration at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (2008 and 2009).

 

Marie was a tenured faculty member at Irvine Valley College (OC Teacher of the Year 2012) and the founding artistic director of its Performing Dance Ensemble.

 

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 2046 Mar Vista Drive, Newport Beach, CA.
