Playing Around
The Playground NYC is gearing up for another series of classes with contemporary dancemakers, which will take place July 16–Aug. 3 at the Gibney Dance Center. Two of those artists, Loni Landon and Gregory Dolbashian, founded The Playground in 2010 as an open forum for creative exchange between professional dancers and choreographers. Their idea for a supportive, exploratory space—where dancers can investigate different approaches to movement and chroeographers can try out ideas on a roomful of curious movers—also respects the average New York dancer’s budget (each session is just $5). The lineup this summer includes Cindy Salgado of Kidd Pivot (July 17), Emery LeCrone (July 26), Ariel Freedman (Aug. 3), and many more.
