Some Ridiculous World Dance Records

April 16, 2012

We’re a sucker for record-breaking! Here are some interesting facts and World Records having to do with dance from the 2012 Guinness Book of World Records:

+ On August 2, 2012 in New York’s Central Park 230 dancer stood on pointe.

+ Michael Hull of Germany danced with 1,068 partners over the course of two days in 2007.

+ The largest ballet class was also in Germany (June, 2010)… it had 1,055 dancers. (Must have been hard to get corrections in that one, ha!)

+ The “longest dance by an individual” distinction goes to Kalamandalam Hemaletha of India for the traditional Indian Mohiniyattam lasting 123 hours. (123/24 = 5.125 days… we have some logistical questions that remain to be asked.)

And now we issue a challenge! One of you out there has to set a new dance record. Think about it and let us know what you’d like to try! The largest number of tappers doing time steps simultaneously? How about someone waltzing the entire length of the country? The possibilities are endless!
