STARZ Hires a Few ABT Stars

March 7, 2017

When we first heard that STARZ was developing a new Black Swan-esque TV series, we were intrigued, but suspicious. Does the dance world really need yet another pop culture project promising to “explore the dysfunction and glamour of the ballet world”?

But now, we’re ridiculously excited. Because the series, titled “Flesh and Bone,” just announced that a trifecta of current and former American Ballet Theatre stars have signed on to the team: Ethan Stiefel will serve as both choreographer and consultant; his fellow Center Stage alum Sascha Radetsky will join the cast in a supporting role; and the recently-retired Irina Dvorovenko—who made a jaw-dropping acting debut earlier this year in the Encores! revival of On Your Toes—will play a supporting role as well.

Also on the lineup are Ballet Arizona’s Raychel Diane Weiner and “Boardwalk Empire” actress Emily Tyra.

Written and produced by “Breaking Bad” writer Moira Walley-Beckett (a former ballet dancer herself), the project is still searching for a dancer to play the lead role of Claire Robbins. Last we heard, they were looking for a Polina Semionova type. If you’re interested in auditioning, contact Tiffany Little Canfield at Telsey and Company by calling 212-868-1260x 29 or emailing [email protected]—but do it quickly because they are looking to lock in the role as soon as possible.

Update January 27, 2014: Dresden Semperoper’s Sarah Hay will play the lead role of Claire Robbins.
