Comings & Goings

American Ballet Theatre
will open its William J. Gillespie School at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, California, in September. The program, directed by former ABT dancer Alaine Haubert, will serve dancers ages 3–14. â–  San Francisco Ballet’s Joseph Walsh has been promoted to principal dancer.

Awards & Honors

The Merce Cunningham Trust has given major gifts to two organizations: Foundation for Contemporary Arts has received $375,000 to establish the Merce Cunningham Award, a biennial grant for artistic achievement that reflects Cunningham values. Baryshnikov Arts Center has been given $250,000 to support its John Cage and Merce Cunningham Studio and create a Cage Cunningham Fellowship to be awarded to one artist annually.
