Then and Now: San Francisco Ballet
Next month, San Francisco Ballet embarks on an international tour that will take the company to Hamburg, Moscow, and London through the fall, and to celebrate, they’ve recreated an iconic image that incorporates S.F.’s most famous landmark. The Golden Gate Bridge, which turns 75 on May 27—making it four years younger than SFB, if you can believe it—serves as a backdrop for seven members of the company’s corps, doing an impromptu barre framed by the Pacific Ocean. The original photo was taken before the company’s Far East Tour in 1957, when SFB was the first American ballet company to tour Asia.
