Through A Dancers' Lens—at NYCB

June 13, 2012

We’re already missing New York City Ballet after an incredible season of ballets—a rather moving premiere by Benjamin Millepied, Wheeldon’s triumphant DGV, Balanchine’s timeless Symphony in C, his transporting Liebeslieder Walzer, and his delightful Midsummer Night’s Dream, to name just a few. So we were thrilled to discover the company’s beautiful Facebook album of what we didn’t see, courtesy the dancers’ cameras—Janie Taylor’s post-engagement glow (Sébastien Marcovici proposed after Liebeslieder—so romantic), Ana Sophia Scheller and Rebecca Krohn after their promotions to principal dancer (they both had fabulous seasons, including a sparkling Tschaikovsky Pas de Deux from Scheller and a cooly gorgeous MOVES from Krohn), and Ashley Bouder’s ability to fit into her dance bag, with an assist from Craig Hall (hey, she’s more than just a luscious Firebird!). Thanks to the dancer-photographers for helping tide us over until the fall (and see “Through A Dancers’ Lens” for more dancer-generated images). —Kina Poon
