4 Dancer-Friendly Foods to Celebrate Spring

March 18, 2015

If you’re like me, after a brutal winter in the Northeast, spring just can’t get here fast enough. Besides the warmer temperatures March offers, there are plenty of in-season foods to get excited about. So on the eve of the first day of spring, why not include one of these vegetables or fruits in your next meal? Bonus: They’re extremely dancer-friendly. Extra Bonus: They’re all green!

1. Artichokes. Why? When steamed, they’re a great low-cal option. Plus they’re packed with fiber and are also a good source of vitamin C and potassium.

2. Head to the farmer’s market for fresh spinach. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it’s one of the most nutrient-rich superfoods out there.

3. Bosc and Anjou pears are also in season. This fruit is a great choice between rehearsals since it’s high in fiber and will keep you full.

4. Looking for a side dish? Steam some asparagus. One cup gives you fiber, iron, vitamin C, beta-carotene and other nutrients, all for just 30 calories.
