A Kid-Friendly Classic

February 6, 2013

As much as kids may love the story of The Sleeping Beauty, a two-and-a-half hour ballet is tough on young attention spans. The next edition of New York City Ballet’s “Family Saturdays” series, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m., makes the classic more accessible to children by condensing it into a one-hour program of highlights—the Rose Adagio, the Fairy variations, and other excerpts—led by NYCB apprentice and up-and-coming teacher Silas Farley.  The scheduled cast (accompanied by Tschaikovsky’s score, played live) includes principal dancers Rebecca Krohn and Ana Sophia Scheller, as well as soloists Erica Pereira, Adrian Danchig-Waring, Antonio Carmena, Chase Finlay, Ask la Cour, and Sean Suozzi. Ages five and up are welcome. The company begins a two-week run of the full-length work, choreographed by Peter Martins, on Wednesday, Feb. 13.
