Baryshnikov and Lil Buck Star In the New rag & bone Ad

February 5, 2015

Let’s talk about some of my favorite things: dance, fashion, handsome men…

Put them together and you have the full monty. That’s the gist of rag & bone’s latest menswear video, which features Mikhail Baryshnikov and Lil Buck busting out some smooth moves. In it, the pair twist, slither and jive with an energy between them that feels more like a shared electric current than a dance battle (though there is a scene that involves a game of chess). Baryshnikov doesn’t whip out any ballet moves, yet the video still communicates a sense of classical meets urban. It’s perfect for rag & bone’s understated but incredibly cool clothing that says: I’m put together without trying too hard.

This isn’t the first time the clothing company has used dancers to promote its goods. One of its fall 2014 collection videos featured Kyle Abraham. In fact, dance is taking over advertising everywhere. There’s Misty Copeland for Under Armour, Tamara Rojo for Lexus and a whole batch of dancers, from ballet to hip hop, in a Diesel jeans ad. People keep saying dance is a dying art. But if the marketing world—one that’s all about staying not just current, but ahead of trends—is any indication, we’ve got a long road ahead of us.
