Dancing Drones

We’re still waiting for drones to deliver our Amazon Prime orders, but in the meantime…watching them dance is pretty cool, too. Cirque du Soleil, ETH Zurich and Verity Studios have teamed up to create Sparked, a short film starring a swarm of quadrotors. The “lampshadebots” are real life robots: No computer graphics were used to create the clip. Welby Altidor, executive creative director of creations at Cirque du Soleil, wanted to explore how a new technology like drones could be integrated into the performing arts. The result? Synchronized choreography with drones and a human that’s magical, fantastical and a little bit weird.
