Saturday Is National Dance Day
Clear your Saturday if you haven’t already. National Dance Day, founded by Nigel Lythgoe and the Dizzy Feet Foundation in 2010, is being celebrated on July 26. The main events are in New York, L.A. and Washington DC with tons of offerings, from classes to performances, that really show off dance’s range. At Lincoln Center, “So You Think You Can Dance” alums tWitch and Allison Holker will lead two dance routines. The Kennedy Center’s celebration will include performances by AXIS Dance Company, a mixed abilities troupe. L.A.’s event at Grand Park will be led by Lythgoe himself, and The Music Center will feature performances by “urban Latin dance theater” company CONTRA-TIEMPO and contemporary group Lula Washington Dance Theatre.
If you’re not in one of those three cities, no worries! It is, after all, a national celebration. Check out this map to see what’s happening near you. And learn this routine from choreographer Chris Scott to perform with your friends.
