Shop Your Way to a Better Battement

January 6, 2015

Facing a tough class? New research found one activity that could give you a little extra oomph. A study published in The Journal of Consumer Psychology found that shopping for yourself may give you a boost once you hit the barre.

According to the study, buying products that help you enjoy an activity can actually make you feel more accomplished while you’re doing it. For instance, if you’re feeling in a ballet rut, try exchanging your ratty old slippers (“So long, duct tape!”) for new ones. While money can’t buy total happiness, it can help enhance your experience of something. Think about it: When you treat yourself to a new piece of dancewear, you’re likely to feel that new leo glow—and dance more confidently at the barre.
