Calling all aspiring musical theater directors: This January, the Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia, will offer a free intensive for those pining to direct on the Great White Way. The intimate program, which will include a series of classes, is limited to six participants under the age of 40. In a press release, Signature Theatre artistic director Eric Schaeffer says, “This workshop will allow us to share information as well as experiences on directing and producing a musical from the ground up. From technical aspects to collaboration, it will provide a new creative opportunity for young directors.” Class sessions will cover everything from rights and estates to how to work with an artistic team. In other words, they’ll dive into some of the less-glamorous—but absolutely necessary—work that being a director entails.

The program is limited to directors in the Washington D.C. area. The Sigworks: Musical Theater Director Workshop will run January 13–15, 2016, and applications are open now through November 10. For details on how to apply, click here.
