Smarter Late-Night Snacking

February 24, 2015

Pop quiz. If you had an early dinner, but your stomach starts to growl by day’s end, what should you do: Go to bed hungry, have another meal or nosh on something smaller?

Answer: Have a snack. While this may seem like a no-brainer, not just any snack will do. A small container of Greek nonfat yogurt or a handful of almonds will likely do the trick. Why? They’re both high in protein, which will help fill you up without disrupting your sleep patterns. Aside from being a healthy nighttime snack, evening protein helps with the process of building and repairing muscles, since the nutrient works best when it’s spread out throughout the day’s meals and snacks.
