Supercharge Your Lunch with Avocado

November 18, 2014

It’s a situation all dancers have faced: It’s noon, and you have just 15 minutes to grab lunch between your technique class and the start of an afternoon of rehearsals. How do you fuel your dancer body to avoid mid-afternoon hunger?

If your simple salad, sandwich or cup of soup just isn’t cutting it, try adding half an avocado. Not only does its creamy texture make a great substitute for mayo and a yummy soup or salad topper, but avocado is also full of the right stuff to help you power through your afternoon. In a recent study published in Nutrition Journal, those who ate half an avocado with their lunch felt 26 percent more satisfied in the three hours that followed than those who didn’t. Why? Avocados are packed with fiber to keep you full, as well as monounsaturated fats, which promote heart health. Next time you’re prepping your lunch, pack along half an avocado. Save the other half for the next day by sprinkling some lemon juice on top to keep it fresh.
