Sylvie Guillem Returns to NYC

April 1, 2012

She will no doubt fill up the Koch Theater with her crazy cool charisma. For three nights starting Wednesday, ballet superstar Sylvie Guillem brings her own program. First up is William Forsythe’s Rearray, created especially for her and her partner, La Scala Ballet’s Massimo Murru (exactly as tall and thin as she is, according to my memory).  Then, to give her a break, Aurélie Cayla and Lukas Timulak perform a duet from Kylián’s 27’52”. (And if you like this bit of Kylián, you can see a full-length work by him at the Joyce next week ). After intermission is Mats Ek’s new solo for her, Bye, set to Beethoven’s final piano sonata.

According to Roslyn Sulcas’ story in The New York Times, “Ms. Guillem’s physical powers seem as tremendous as they were a decade ago.” For tickets and to see a video, click here.

This is a A Sadler’s Wells London / Sylvie Guillem Production, presented by The Joyce Theater Foundation.
