Here are the latest promotions, appointments, and departures, as well as notable awards and accomplishments, from August 2023.

Comings & Goings

Joshua Blake Carter has been named artistic director of Dance Kaleidoscope, succeeding David Hochoy, who has been named artistic director emeritus. Carter was previously director of Giordano II.

Trinidad Vives has been named acting artistic director of The Washington Ballet, beginning August 17, through the end of December. She succeeds Julie Kent, who joined Houston Ballet as co-artistic director in July.

Staatsballett Berlin acting artistic director Dr. Christiane Theobald has retired.

Ming Min Hui has been named executive director at Boston Ballet, a post she has filled in an interim capacity since Meredith “Max” Hodges departed in July.

Erica Lynette Edwards has been named executive director of Giordano Dance Chicago, succeeding Michael McStraw on September 1.

Juliane Slater has been appointed executive director of EMERGE125.

Grand Rapids Ballet executive director Glenn Del Vecchio will depart the company at the end of the 2023–24 season.

Maurya Kerr has been appointed resident curator at ODC Theater through the end of 2024.

Barbara Bears has joined Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre as rehearsal director.

Lisa-Marie Jourdain has been named rehearsal director at National Ballet of Canada.

Gian Carlo Perez has joined Houston Ballet as a first soloist, Adelaide Clauss, Rench Soriano, and Masanori Takiguchi as demi-soloists. All were formerly with The Washington Ballet.

Yue Shi has joined Boston Ballet as a principal, Chenxin Liu as a second soloist.

Former Sarasota Ballet soloist Marco Alessandro Corcella has joined Oklahoma City Ballet as a principal.

Former Dresden Semperoper Ballett demi-soloist Jennifer Hackbarth has joined Sarasota Ballet as a principal.

Maine Kawashima has joined Cincinnati Ballet as a soloist.

At Colorado Ballet, Christophor Moulton has been promoted to principal.

At Milwaukee Ballet, Alana Griffith and Lizzie Tripp have been promoted to leading artist.

At Dutch National Ballet, Elisabeth Tonev has been promoted to soloist. Jacopo Tissi has joined as a principal.

At Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Anna Ishii and Esnel Ramos have been promoted to principal, Mai Kono and André Santos to first soloist, and Angel Vizcaíno to demi-soloist.

At Northern Ballet, Joseph Taylor has been promoted to premier dancer, Jonathan Hanks, Dominique Larose, and Saeka Shirai to leading soloist.

Awards & Honors

At the 2023 NY Dance and Performance Awards (the “Bessies”), Barkha Patel received the Juried Bessie Award and Symara Johnson the award for Outstanding Breakout Choreographer. Other awards included: Outstanding Choreographer/Creator for LaTasha Barnes (The Jazz Continuum), Dormeshia (Rhythm Is Life), Benjamin Akio Kimitch (Tiger Hands), and Omari Wiles (New York Is Burning); Outstanding Performer for j. bouey, Amanda Castro, Joyce Edwards, and Albert Silindokuhle Ibokwe Khoza; and Outstanding Revival for Twyla Tharp’s In The Upper Room (1986/2022) at New York City Center.
